The back interview is an opportunity for the candidate to clarify with the recruiter the work and organizational issues that they did not manage to touch during the interview. We have collected questions that are usually asked an employer to better understand how the vacation schedule works, how shifts are paid, whether the company provides health insurance and other bonuses.
Introduction to the position
What does the work schedule or shift schedule look like?
When starting a new job, people often drop out of their usual mode of life during adaptation – sometimes this period takes a couple of days, sometimes a month. Ask to show you a work schedule for one or two weeks in advance – this is necessary to plan your personal life, hobbies, and hobbies.
Does the company have overtime?
Overtime is there in almost any firm and is not something unacceptable – sometimes the manager asks the employee to stay late because the business lacks hands. Overtime must be paid according to the Labor Code or other agreements fixed in the contract.
What typical tasks will I solve during the working day?
As a rule, the employer indicates everything requirements in the resume, but sometimes he can write them incompletely – intentionally or out of forgetfulness. For example, a courier is expected to work on the night shift or delivery oversized cargo, and an accountant, in addition to working with reports, is expected to conduct personnel records management – it is better to know about such details in advance.
How free I am in accepting professional solutions?
Companies control employees in different ways – somewhere it is close monitoring of the entire work process, somewhere it is checking the final, not intermediate results. Specify how closely you have to work with a supervisor: do you need to synchronize schedules daily or once a week, do you need to be in touch during working hours or around the clock?
What are the criteria for the success of a specialist in my positions?
How is the company going to rate you: in terms of sales volume, number of completed orders, or growth of the branch’s monthly profit? The answer to this question will determine your professional priorities for the near future or probationary period if any.
Technical aspects
What programs should you use?
Usually, technology stacks are standardized for each specialty and are indicated in the vacancy – accountants use 1C or “My business”, baristas use online cash registers and Excel. Check if the team works with any additional software, and if so, with which one.
Who to contact when problems arise?
During work, unforeseen circumstances arise – how is it acceptable to solve them in the company? If, say, a supplier brought spoiled milk, a purchasing manager will deal with the problem in a chain coffee shop, and at a coffee point, it is the barista’s task. Understand in advance how to respond to emergencies, if possible.
Company and Business
When and how can I get a promotion?
Immediately clarify whether your position offers an opportunity for career growth – in some companies employees are not promoted, simply because there is nowhere. If a pay increase is possible, ask how long it usually takes to climb the career ladder.
Is there a budget for employee training?
Some companies pay employees slightly below the market but send for free training. Find out if the company has a budget for an English school or continuing education.
Can I combine it with other work?
You can work part-time if it does not violate the provisions of your employment contract – some employers prohibit you from engaging in any additional projects if they are profitable.
Remote work
How does the company feel about remote work?
Presence in the office is not necessary for every job. If you want to work from home, ask your employer if he would mind. This way you can get an extra hour of sleep and save on transport and business lunches. Sometimes employers give computers and additional equipment to remote employees, sometimes you need to buy it yourself. Ask, as is customary in the company.
Bonuses and compensations
Do you have a vacation? And the paid days besides him?
If you are going to work under a GPC or piece-work contract, there may not be paid vacation – you will have to rest at your own expense. Sometimes, on the contrary, companies add several paid days off to the official vacation pay – two or three days a year.
Is it possible to use the vacation in advance?
By law, go on the first vacation is possible after six months of continuous work with one employer. Some companies let employees go on vacation earlier, bypassing this regulation. You can find out what is customary in the company you are applying for during an interview.
Are there any other bonuses?
In addition to health insurance, employers are introducing a system of loyalty – bonuses, thirteenth salaries, annual bonuses. Sometimes it’s payment for meals, sometimes it’s a discount on fitness. Do not hesitate to ask about bonuses, usually, it is mutually beneficial – employers save on taxes due to VHI or other insurance.
